The Bright Flight Edit: Staying Well at 35,000 Feet

The little rituals and things that make every flight feel a little better.

One thing years of travelling for work has taught me – wellness doesn’t disappear when your routine does. You just have to be a little more intentional about it.

Airports and planes are not designed for your nervous system. The recycled air, the dehydration, the sitting still for hours, the bad food at the wrong times, the low grade stress of it all. Your body notices even when your mind is focused on the destination.

So I’ve stopped trying to be perfect when I travel and started travelling with anchors instead. Small, consistent things that mean I land feeling like myself rather than a wrung-out version of myself.

Here is what actually comes with me:

My own plastic free cup. Always. Hot drinks served in plastic on planes are something I stopped doing a while ago. A small thing that matters more than it sounds.

IM8 Daily Essentials. One sachet covers vitamins, minerals, probiotics, adaptogens and plant nutrients in one go. On travel days when breakfast is whatever the airport offers and lunch happens when it happens, knowing my nutritional baseline is covered is genuinely reassuring. I keep one in my hand luggage without fail. Use code BRIGHTSOULS for 10% off — link in The Bright Edit.

Hydrogen water tablets. My travel hydration non-negotiable. Drop one in your water bottle and you have hydrogen-rich water that hydrates at a cellular level and supports antioxidant defence mid-flight. Easier to travel with than anything else and genuinely effective.

Face mist. The recycled air on planes strips everything. A good botanical mist makes you feel human again mid-flight.

Vitamin C sachets. When I’m organised enough to remember them. Immune support, antioxidant hit, worth it.

Something grounding to listen to. This one matters more than people realise. What you put in your ears on a flight shapes your whole nervous system state when you land. I listen to our Bright Souls New Energy Event playlist on Spotify — curated specifically for moments when you want to feel calm, elevated and present.

Movement. I walk instead of sit at the gate. I get up on longer flights. It sounds obvious but most people don’t do it.

And always a window seat (on short haul flights). I am a committed cloud admirer. There is something magical about being above the weather, watching cloud formations move and shift below you, completely unhurried. It is one of the few moments in modern life where you are simply suspended, between one place and another, between one version of your day and the next. I find it meditative in a way that nothing else quite replicates. If you are not already getting a window seat specifically to watch the clouds, start. It is the most underrated nervous system reset available at 35,000 feet.

None of this is complicated. It is just the difference between arriving depleted and arriving ready.
